President Mahinda Rajapakse's aim is to build the ruined economy by utilising large funds from the Treasury to undertake development projects in the rural sector. He also aims to resurrect the lives of estate workers neglected hitherto. The Geneva talks were aimed at bringing permanent Peace to the Country. He hoped that the LTTE would give up War and involve themselves in rebuilding the Nation torn by an errant War." These observations were made by Deputy Minister of Finance and Kegalla District UPFA MP Ranjith Siyambalapitiya while addressing a series of meetings in the Ruwanwella Electorate, to canvass support for UPFA candidates contesting the local government elections. Continuing the Deputy Minister said, the huge exodus from the UNP predicts that it would be a one horse race for the UPFA candidates in the forthcoming local Council elections. There is no purpose in voting the UNP to power in Local Councils, as they have rendered no service to tax-payers in the past. Several, UNPers who were long time supporters of the party have realised the fate of the UNP at the mini polls. Hence they resigned to join the UPFA. He therefore appealed to all sections of people to disregard political Communal and religious differences and join hands with President Mahinda Rajapakse's Government to seek Economic Stability and Peace in the Country, he concluded.
