Hilarious comedy skits

by Mahes Perera

The title of the song Gigiri Jagiri as you read it now, must surely have brought a smile on your face. That's the aim of comedian Bandu Samarasinghe, minus one tooth, to keep you happy and smiling in life.

Which is why the launch of his new DVD and VCD Bandula Live in Concert was readily welcomed by all his fans bar none. The Concert was held recently at the BMICH and the DVD contains fifteen songs with a non-stop medley bonanza for good measure.

It's a well-known fact that following in the footsteps of comedian Freddie Silva, the twosome Bandula Samarasinghe and Tennyson Cooray took part in Sinhala films, acting out humorous skits in song and dance and earning popularity for more than ten years in this field.

Today, with so much turbulence around us, comedy acts are refreshing and welcome, so too this DVD, digitally mastered by Torana Home Video.

At random, some of the selections performed by Bandu are, Wasanawa Dora Arala, Meraya Meraya, Wisky Kade Poosa, Dothin Dothai and Mama Manamali Obe. It's sure to lift your spirits.

In New Orleans style

One of the successful dixieland bands in Norway will be in Sri Lanka to perform as a prelude to the holiday season next month.

The seven piece band Safari will be featured at Thorana Lounge, Hilton Colombo from Monday April 3 to Sunday April 9. The exciting vintage sounds will be heard from 8.00 p.m to 11.00 p.m on each day.

Leading the band will be the Sri Lankan Ricky Senn, a saxophonist with a wealth of experience behind him. Music aficionados in Sri Lanka are extremely familiar with his artistry.

In fact Senn was in Sri Lanka performing during the past Christmas and New year festivities and returned to Norway in January.

Now he tells us he's happy to be back with Safari to entertain music lovers.

The band comprises a pianist, guitarist, drummer, trombonist, trumpeter, saxophonist - tenor and soprano and tuba player, instead of a bassist.

Vintage music lovers will surely enjoy the bands repetoire which includes all time favourites like Ice Cream, Saints, Mack the Knife, Bill Bailey, Swing Low Sweet, Chariot, Hello Dolly, Bye Bye Blackbird, Amazing Grace and much more. So make the date.

There are vocalists in the group. A TV reporter from Norway and a news reporter from Thailand will be on hand for press coverage.
