19 events for Nuwara Eliya motor races by S. M. Jiffrey Abdeen - Kandy Sports Corr. A total of 19 events for motors cars and motor cycles including four Federation of Motor Cycles Sports in Sri Lanka championship will be worked off at the Singer Sri Lanka Nuwara Eliya Road Races organised by the Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club in association with the Nuwara Eliya Motor Racing Club which be worked off at the Nuwara Eliya circuit on Sunday April 23 commencing at 8 a.m. The official practices for grid positions will be held on Saturday April 22 at 1 p.m. Of the 19 events which are scheduled to be worked off twelve will be motor cycles and seven for motor cars. Four of the motor cycle events will be for Championship 2006 and they are - Group O: Standard motor cycles 125 cc (Two Stroke) single cylinder 175 cc to 250 cc (Four Stroke) two cylinder. Standard: 250 cc (Two Stroke) two cylinder. 290 cc to 450 four cc (Four Stoke) four cylinder Standard : 250 cc (Four Stroke) four cylinder. Group R - Racing: 125 cc (Two Stroke). 175 cc to 250 cc (Four Stroke) four cylinder. The other motor cycle events to be worked off are: Group P: Standard Modified - 125 cc (Two Stroke), Standard Modified - 125 cc (Four Stroke) Single Cylinder, Standard Modified: 250 cc (Two Stroke), and 450 cc (Four Stroke),Standard Modified : 250 cc (Four Stroke), Super Motard: 125 cc (two stroke) and 250 cc (Four Stroke), Super Motard : 250 cc (Two Stroke) and 450 cc (Four Stroke), Super Motard: 250 cc (Two Stroke) and 450 cc (Four Stroke). Open event Racing Class upto 250 cc. Standard Modified upto 600 cc. The events for motor cars are as follows: Group SL-N: Standard upto 1050 cc. Standard : upto 1400 cc., one make class, standard Mini upto 1000 cc, Nissan March 1000 cc, Ford Laser / Mazda 1300 CC, Ford Laser / Mazda 1500 cc, Group SL - A, Modified upto 1050 cc. In the past this Road Race conducted during the Nuwara Eliya Festivities season has attracted very large crowds and has provided the motor racing fans with a lot of thrills and spills. The entries will be received by the Secretary, Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club, C/o Asian Motors (Pvt) Limited, 482 T. B. Jayah Mawatha, Colombo 10, Telephone : 011-2699168. Fax 011-2699158. The competition rules states that a minimum of five entries are required to schedule an event and a minimum of five starters are required to run an event. If there are insufficient entries for an event to be scheduled, the competitors in that particular event will be permitted to run in the next higher class. Entries are restricted to ten competitors for an event and if in excess the best timing returned on the Preotiac Day will be taken into account for Motor Cars. In the past riders like Dilantha Malagmuwa, Vikum Ranjith, Sarath Kumarasinghe, Riley Wanigasekera, Johnny Daniel, Shafraz Junaid, W. M. Gunasinghe, Indike Gurusinghe, Shane Silva, Rohana Jayaratne, Ramal Pathiratne, just to name a few have thrilled the crowds. The events for motor cars has seen the likes of Rohith de Silva, Thusith
de Silva, Nilanga Dela Bandara, Hafiz Cader, Dinesh Senanayake, Shantha
Suraweera, Susantha Gunawardene, Yoga Perera, Upulwan Serasinghe, Dhammika
Peiris, Mahen Thambiak, Pressanna de Alwis, Rajeewa Abeywardena, Dhanushka
Mudalige and Rohan de Silva burn the tracks providing the thrills to the
motor racing enthusiasts. Most of them are like to participate this year
too. |
