Two dead, 14 missing in mine accident

HANOI, April 01, 2006 (AFP) Two Vietnamese miners were killed and 14 others were still missing after water flooded a coal mine in the northern province of Quang Ninh, company officials said Saturday.

The accident occurred Friday in the Mong Duong mine shaft, Cam Pha town, more than 200 kilometres (120 miles) northeast of Hanoi. "We have rescued five miners.

Two others died when taken out of the mine," said an official from Mong Duong coal company. He said 14 others were still inside. A total of 21 people were working in the mine when one of them struck a large water pocket.
