Dining out... They couldn't care less... by Chamitha Kuruppu Slow service, wrong orders, plates and glasses with sticky stains, dirty tables and employees in uniforms that haven't visited a laundry for the last three months.
The bitter truth is that it is the 'dirty habits' of customers that lead to unclean restaurants. "The ones who make the most of these restaurants are the average people, who view dining out as a luxury, they want what they know will be an acceptable experience. They care less about the hygiene," say the hoteliers. In most restaurants a bowl of warm water is provided to rinse the plate, but customers, unaware of the actual purpose, rinse their hands on the plate, making things worse. Men seem to be enjoying drinking from glasses with red lipstick stains, although it is just a matter of getting the employees to wash them thoroughly. This might seem better than the habit of some customers who use their plates to drink water. Most restaurant floors are covered with tissues or rather pieces of newspapers given to wipe hands. The restaurants are forever filled with cigarette smoke ignoring 'NO SMOKING' notices smiling at every corner. It is said that the best way to win a man's heart is through his stomach. If these restaurant goers are anything to go by, being messy and unhygienic is all you've got to be to catch the man of your dreams. |
