SLMM chief returns empty handed by Ranga Jayasuriya The government has offered to provide a ten-seater chopper to transport eastern LTTE commanders to Kilinochchi and urged the LTTE to cease hostilities forthwith. The Head of the Peace Secretariat, Dr Palitha Kohona told the Sunday Observer last night that the government's decision was a display of its genuine commitment towards peace. Meanwhile, diplomatic sources in Colombo expressed anger and annoyance over the LTTE's arrogance towards ignoring the opinion of the international community. "The Tigers, had totally disregarded the visit of SLMM Chief Ulf Henricsson to Kilinochchi on Friday night. This is nothing but sheer arrogance," a Western diplomat based in Colombo asserted. While these developments took place yesterday, the LTTE exploded claymore mines, killing four troops in three separate incidents. These explosions wounded 11 other security forces men. Henricsson returned to Colombo yesterday empty-handed as the LTTE political wing leader S. P. Thamilselvan did not meet him as scheduled. The SLMM chief could only meet LTTE Peace Secretariat head Pulithevan who had reportedly told Henricsson that the LTTE needed a bigger chopper instead of a three to four-seater chopper earlier offered by the government. The SLMM chief and the Norwegian special envoy last night met the head of the Peace Secretariat, Dr.Palitha Kohona. Two Special Force commandoes were killed and four others were injured yesterday afternoon at Thandikulam, Vavuniya, when their Unicorn Buffle was hit by a claymore mine. Earlier in the day, the LTTE exploded two claymore mines in Vavuniya and Sinhapura in Welikanda in which two Security Forces personnel, including a Major were killed and seven others were wounded.
