Sri Lanka's gold medallist in weightlifting at the Commonwealth Games 2006 held in Melbourne, Australia, Chinthaka Geethal Withanage from Polonnaruwa was felicitated by the Young Men's Christian Association, Kandy, at a ceremony held in Kandy.

It must be recalled that Chinthaka Withanage had his last six months of training at the Gymnasium of Kandy YMCA under the guidance of former national weightlifting coach Athula Wijewickrema.

Chinthaka Withanage was honoured by being driven in an open truck through the streets of Kandy while the people applauded him for his great achievement.
