Sri Lanka Synchronised Swimming team in Japan by Leslie Fernando Six member Sri Lanka Synchronised Swimming Team left on Friday for Japan to participate in the 'Synchro-Japan 2006' (Japan Synchronized Swimming Championships) conducted by the Japanese Aquatic Sports Federation in association with Asian Amateur Swimming Federation to be held in Yokohama from May 2 to 9. Dehara Ketapearachchi who won 2 gold medals and a bronze for Sri Lanka at the Open Synchronized Swimming Competition conducted by the Hong Kong Aquatic Sports Federation. The meet was held at Kowloon Park Swimming pool in Hong Kong in January this year. Dehara will lead the side. Ketapearachchi will participate in the Paddler Stroke Event, Figure Competition, Solo event and the Open Team event. The other members are: Elisha Gomes who excelled in Hong Kong winning a bronze medal in the egg Beater Stroke, Ruvini Illukkumbura winner of a bronze medal in Solo event, Dilini Kithsiri, Deepthi Samarajeewa were responsible for winning a silver medal in the Open Team event together with Dehara, Ruvini, Elisha and Gayani and Hashani Warnapura. Shahili Gomes will be participating in an International Synchronized Swimming Championships for the first time. Sri Lanka girls will participate in Solo Event, Figure Competition, Paddle Stroke, Egg Beater Stroke and Open Team Event. Erandi Fernando will be the manager of the team while Gayani Warnapura who captained the Sri Lanka team for the Hong Kong championships will be the coach.
