Dougie Jayasinha dies Former All-Ceylon cricketer, Douglas Jayasinha, passed away on Friday in his sleep at the ripe old age of 92 years. His funeral takes place tomorrow (Monday) at 4 p.m. at the General Cemetery, Kanatte. He was a fine left handed batsman and a right-arm bowler, Dougie, was a product of Mahinda College (Galle). He played cricket for the school from 1931 to 1936 and captained them in the final three years. He scored six centuries and over twelve 50's and claimed over 80 wickets. He also captained the Tennis team. Dougie later turned out for Galle CC, SSC and Moratuwa SC with distinction and was the Chairman of the Selection Committee of the then Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka (BCCSL) from 1963 to 1973. Turning out for Galle, Dougie, hit three consecutive centuries in the then premier tournament - Daily News, against Colts, BRC and SSC. He represented All-Ceylon in 1937 against New Zealand, 1945 versus India scoring 22 and 24. He also played for the Education Department, and some of his contemporaries were F.C. de Saram, C. I. Gunasekera, Malcolm Spittle, M. Sathasivam, Fairlie Dalpethado and many others. Dougie's wife, Swarna, predeceased him. They had three sons - Nimal Dias Jayasinha, Ravindra Dias and Mohan Dias.
