CR in easy 54-5 win

CR & FC booked themselves a berth for next Saturday's semifinal of the Caltex Clifford Cup Knock-Out Rugby Championships, when they trounced Galle RFU by 54 points to 5 in their quarter-final clash at Longden Place yesterday.

CR who last won the title in 1989 are now the hot favourites with defending champions Kandy Sports Club pulling out of this year's tournament in protest after the SLRFU decided to play the semi-finals and final in Colombo this year. Kandy were replaced by Galle.

Police too withdraw from the Caltex Clifford Cup due to the security situation in the country and were replaced by Kurunegala who lost their quarter-final game to the Air Force last evening at Ratmalana. The other two quarter-final games to be worked off today (Sunday) are - CH & FC vs Old Zahirians at Longdon Place and Havelocks vs Army at Havelock Park.

The winners of these two games meet in the second semi-final on August 6 at Longden Place while the final is scheduled for August 12 at the same venue.
