Prageeth Rathnayake's solo exhibition: TEXT unmasks the changes in
the old order
Prageeth's first solo exhibition, titled 'The Text' is being held at
the Lional Wendt Art Gallery from July 29 to 31, 2006. The exhibition
represents the gamut of society and is a symbolic expression of the
collapse of the social ideals and identities of the old order.
Prageeth who believes that individuals in today's world express
themselves through their attire laments that, "the identity of today's
youth is reflected through T-shirts and denims".
In such a milieu he uses isolated human figures in his paintings to
reflect the loss of identity of individuals in today's society.
A third year student of the University of Colombo, he has evolved his
own narrative style based on classical, western traditions.
