Radio Impulse
by Rikaza Hassan
Radio Impulse is all set to hit the airwaves on 96.1 FM on the 26th
and 27th of August. Organised by the students at the SLT Training
Centre, Welisara studying for their Edexcel BTEC HND, it is a project in
application of the knowledge they have thus far gained.
"Our primary objective is to purchase a centralised sound system for
the Training Centre which will be quite helpful to us as students, but
this is also a project where we have the opportunity to apply what we
have learnt and further educate ourselves on the practical aspects of
this field."

The enterprise, according to them will increase their technical
experience in the field as well as give a boost tot heir individual
confidence.
Yet another purpose of the programme is to promote the BTEC HND
qualification. "The training centre is the only place that conducts this
examination in the country and is equivalent to the second year of your
Bachelors Degree in Engineering at Northumbria University."
The station will be on air for at least eighteen hours, from 6.00
a.m. to 12 midnight and will host programmes in the three languages of
English, Sinhala and Tamil. "We are planning to have a request show and
mainly play popular music apart from other genres. We also have a late
night English programme of love songs plus an entire segment devoted to
baila music."

The difference between Radio Impulse and other temporary radio
stations is that they also plan to educate their listeners on the
various aspects of technology. "We currently have planned segments
explaining the latest technologies, such as the massively popular CDMA
facility, in a means that the public can easily grasp."
They will also host programmes offering career advise, interviews
with people who have reached the very tops of the industry, and also
offer listeners the opportunity to call in with their individual
questions. "We are targetting an audience ranging from the ages of
eighteen to thirty five."
So be sure to tune in to 96.1 FM and get with the technological times
as you listen to Marshall Mathers spew forth venom at his once again
ex-wife. |
