The National Institute of Business Management (NIBM) in association
with Sheffield Hallam University, UK will conduct a two-day seminar on
lean manufacturing systems for Senior Managers of Manufacturing
organisations in Sri Lanka from August 23-24 at the Galle Face Hotel.
Lean Manufacturing is the latest buzzword in manufacturing circles.
It is not especially new. It derives from the Toyota Production System
or Just In Time Production, Henry Ford and other predecessors. The
lineage of Lean manufacturing and Just In Time (JIT) Production goes
back to Eli Whitney and the concept of interchangeable parts.
Lean Manufacturing caught the imagination of manufacturing people in
many countries. Lean implementations are now commonplace. The knowledge
and experience base is expanding rapidly.
The seminar will guide you through the essence of lean principles and
its real life applications from internationally recognised lean experts.
The seminar covers Defining Customer Value; Lean Principles; Identifying
Value Streams; Value Stream Mapping (VSM); Simulation; Takt Paced
Production; Kanban Design of Pull System; Poka-Yoke (Mistake Proofing)
in Human Error Reduction; Visual Management - Integrating Japanese 5S
Method in Lean System; Integrating Six Sigma in Lean Systems;
Implementing Kaizen Bursts.
Jim Marsh, a practising lean consultant from UK will take sessions on
identifying value streams and mapping of them for improvement while
Prof. Terrence Perera from Sheffield Hallam University, UK, will take
you through how to develop manufacturing models by means of simulation.
DMA Kulasooriya, Senior Consultant - Quality and Productivity - will
take a session on how to integrate lean systems and Six Sigma quality
system to breakthrough improvement.
Jim has a background from within the Aerospace sector and has many
years of experience in the facilitation and implementation of Lean
Operations Management as well as working for a large bluechip company
such as BAE Systems. Jim has also worked for many SMEs ranging from
manufacturing textiles and food sectors.
Terrence is a well known consultant and practitioner in the field of
systems modelling and simulation. He assists companies to deploy
simulation based solutions and develops user friendly customised models
to address specific issues.
Kulasooriya has designed and conducted Six Sigma training programs on
Green Belt an Black Belt for the first time in Sri Lanka and coached
more than 100 Six Sigma projects in different industries. |
