Tough checks at Customs
By Anura Maitipe
The Department of Customs has taken the initiative to install Cargo
Monitoring scanners at a cost of USD 15 million to check cargo to
prevent malpractices in the import and export of goods, Director General
Customs Sarth Jayatillaka told the Sunday Observer.
These scanners have been imported from France and they are used in
developed countries for checking accuracy in the flow of goods. The
unauthorised goods could be detected by these scanners, he added.
Special training will be provided to the officers of Customs, Navy
and Ports Authority to handle these scanners. |
