Major licence racket busted

The Central Anti - Vice Striking Force (CAVSF) has busted a major racket involving forged driving licences, revenue licences of the Registrar of Motor Vehicles, Police temporary permits, 50 false frank seals and 150 photographs of persons along with their birth certificates when they raided a residence at Wakade in Panadura area last week.

Following the discovery police took into custody a former security officer of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority. The suspect had been involved in fraudulent practices for a long period of time. His wife too had been a former employee of the Defence Ministry, OIC, Central Anti Striking Force Inspector Vijitha Perera told the Sunday Observer .

The suspect was handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department as the police suspect that he was involved in issuing false certificates to persons from the North-East.
