Double Game: A story of love, greed and intrigue

"Double Game" is the latest Sinhala movie to hit the silver screen
and is now being shown in the EAP circuit. It carries the theme of true
love in the face of several odds.
 The story starts with the miraculous rescue of Madu, the one and only
daughter of Senanayaka's, from the clutches of gangsters who exchanged
fire with police, by Inspector Ranga. Eventually they become lovers and
Wikie, a police officer helps them.
However, after the discovery of love affair by the Senanayaka's,
disheartened Madu questions her mother and learns that her father had
promised Muddlier or Hamu to marry her to Hamu's son who studies abroad
and arrives soon to look after properties in Sri Lanka. Madu refuses to
accede to the proposal. She is not allowed to visit Ranga. However, the
duo meet in secrecy.
The story takes a twist with Ranga leaving Pakistan for training and
promising to marry Madu after the training. On the day Ranga departs,
Prasad arrives and Madu is forced to marry Prasad.
When Ranga returns he learnt that Madu had married and began to hate
her. Ranga got a transfer to his ancestral village and meets his
parents. At a party hosted by planter Danawardena, he meets Madu.
Subsequently Ranga meets Madu by chance and learns that she was forced
to marry Prasad who is a chronic alcoholic.
The old love affair rekindles. Madu becomes pregnant and Prasad
questions her. Prasad beats Madu and destroys her baby. Ranga arrives
and Ranga and Prasad engage in a fight. Madu shoots Prasad with a
pistol. Madu and Ranga who were sentenced to five years term of jail,
rejoins at the trailed off of the sentence.
Arjun Kamalanath as Inspector Ranga, introducing Amisha Kavindi as
Madu and Buddhika Rambukwella portray their allotted characters. "Double
Game" is a family movie and depicts the way in which greed and money
tries to determine the collective destiny of individuals and the tragedy
brought about by it.
'World Trade Centre' at MC
Based on a true story of the last two survivors John McLaughlin and
William J. Jimeno who were extracted from the rubble at Ground Zero of
the World Trade Centre in the aftermath of the September 11 tragedy, the
"World Trade Centre" movie which is now being screened at Majestic
Cinema, tells a story of courage and hope and heroism against heavy
odds.
John McLaughlin and William J. Jimeno were the first among a small
team dispatched in the aftermath of the attack to help civilians trapped
in the twin towers. Though the film was set in New York City, most of
the film was shot on soundstages in Los Angeles.
The film shows how New Yorkers help one another amidst a tragedy. It
is the second movie about, the twin towers after United 93.The film
directed by Academy award winner Oliver Stone, is rated PG-13 for
"intense and emotional content, some disturbing images and languages".
It was released by Paramount Pictures.
