Pubudu Wanigasekera of Lake House
and Dilan Yasantha of the Petroleum Corporation won the coveted Triple
Crown each at the Nationalised Services Open Badminton Championships at
the S. Thomas’ College Indoor Stadium, Mount Lavinia last week.
Pubudu won the Women’s Singles with a straight sets (21-19, 21-7) win
over W. G. Liyanage (BCC), while partnered by NSB’s G. Kalutota, she won
the Women’s Doubles also in straight sets (21-13, 21-10) over W. G.
Liyanage of Bank of Ceylon and R. Waduge.
Pubudu then combined effectively with Dilan Yasantha to win the Mixed
Doubles title, too in straight sets (21-11, 21-12) over Chamila
Kuruppanawala of the Petroleum Corporation and W. G. Liyanage of Bank of
Ceylon. Dilan Yasantha won the Men’s Singles over K. S. Pushpakumara in
straight sets (21-12, 21-15) while partnered by Deepal Madurapperuma
also of Petroleum won the Men’s Doubles beating Kuruppanawala and M.
Thudugala of Petroleum in straight sets (21-17, 21-20). He then won the
Mixed Doubles with Pubudu Wanigasekera.
K. S. Pushpakumara of Petroleum won a “double” in the Veteran’s Men’s
events. He won the Singles beating Deepal Madurapperuma in straight sets
(21-18, 22-20), while partnering Madurapperuma won the Doubles title
also with a straight sets (21-10, 21-11) win over Damith Leelaratne of
People’s Bank and U. Perera.
Thamalika Livera won the Women’s Veteran’s Singles beating W. G.
Liyanage of Bank of Ceylon in a three setter (21-18, 18-21, 21-12),
while the Women’s Veteran’s Doubles title was won by W. G. Liyanage and
D. C. P. S. Siriwardene of Ports Authority over Rohini Munaweera and S.
Jayamaha of the Water Board also in a three setter (21-11, 11-21,
21-16). W. S. Jayanthasiri won the Masters Singles with a straight sets
(21-14, 21-10) win over P. S. K. Senanayake of Petroleum, while the
Masters Doubles title went to Jayanthasiri and Senanayake who combined
to beat U. Perera and S. Perera in straight sets (21-18, 21-16).
The Men’s Plate Singles was won by Kanchana Wimalasuriya of Petroleum
Corporation beating H. K. Rangana Thushara in a three-setter (21-18,
15-21, 21-14), while Thilini Rangika won the Women’s Plate Singles
beating D. Jayawardene also in straight sets (21-4, 21-19). L.G. |
