CMC contracts neuro disease?
by Anura Maitipe
Construction work on the Neuro-Trauma Unit built at a cost of Rs.
1,200 million with financial assistance from the Saudi Arabian
government has been delayed by one year due to lethargy of the Colombo
Municipal Council (CMC), Health Ministry sources told the Sunday
Observer.
The Neuro Trauma Unit of the Colombo National Hospital was scheduled
to be completed by the end of 2007 but construction work has been
delayed due to non clearing of drainage and sewerage lines by the
Colombo Municipal Council. The Ministry of Health has made several
requests to the CMC in this connection but no action has been taken to
clear these lines.
This has created a great hindrance to the construction work of this
building, sources added.
When contacted the CMC Deputy Mayor A. K. H. S. Rajendran admitted
that the CMC had failed to clear the site in time and this has resulted
delaying this project.
The CMC was run by the UNP Mayor at that time. I will now take steps
to clear the drainage lines to proceed with construction work on the
Neuro Trauma Unit, he said. |
