Observer staffer's father passes away
Mr. M. F. A. Jawad passed away peacefully on Saturday December 9. He
was 89.
Born to a well-konwn Colombo Moor family, he was the great grandson
of well-known philanthropist and national hero Wapche Marikar and
grandson of W. M. Abdul Raheman who represented the Ceylon Moors in the
Legislative Council.
He was also the late Sir Razik Fareed's younger sister's only child
and was involved in national service with him as his Private Secretary
for 45 years. He was also Working Director Sri Lanka Sugar Corporation,
Janatha Estates Development Board (JEDB) and the Fisheries Corporation.
His great intellectual depth and spiritual insight reflected in his
profound thoughts and unique personality. His mastery of the English
language was evident in the speeches the late Sir Razik delivered in
Parliament.
He was the son of the late A. H. M. Fuard and Ummu Rakeeba and
son-in-law of the late S. L. M. Hashim and Noor Zahira.
Late Mr. Jawad was educated at St. Joseph's College, Darley Road and
Ananda College, Colombo 10.
He leaves behind his wife Sithy Rahila, children Iqbal, Sidqi,
Afreeha and Aflel, daughters-in-law Riyaza and Farzana, grandchildren
Mazneen, Shumly, Rakeeb and Azeez, great grandchildren Akeel, Thaheer
and Thaliya. Late Mr. Jawad's one and only daughter Afreeha is a senior
features writer in the Sunday Observer.
Janaza took place on Sunday, December 10 at Kuppiyawatte Muslim
Burial Grounds.
