Logaraja wins both gross and nett divisions

GOLF: Playing on invitation S. Logaraja playing to a handicap of
eight won both the men's gross and nett Divisions while that vrsatile
golfer Suwaneetha Selvaratnam won the Ladies gross division at the final
medal round of the Victoria monthly golf series organised by the
Victoria Golf and Country Resort and played at the beautiful Victoria
golf course at Rajawella.
The course as usual was in excellent condition but was difficult to
come to terms as the edges were rough and the showers which fell made it
even more difficult.
The draw for the two airline tickets was won by Ian Teit, so that he
could take a free ride to 'Old Blighty' for the festive season if he
desires to leave Sri Lanka which he has now made his home.
This seventh round of the medal series was organised well and a big
boquet should go to the General Manager and British golf professional
Mike Varney, Marketing Manager Lalindra Ranaweera, Golf Operations
Assistant Manageress Sandio Meandrew, Caddie Master Peter Perera, K.
Sivakumar (Assistant) and Maheel Bulumulla (Course Manager) for a fine
job done.
S. Logaraja who played by invitation got a gross 84 and a nett 76 to
walk off with both gross and nett titles for the month for the Men. In
both these divisions the runner up was Englishman Ian with scores of
gross 84 and nett 78.In fact Logaraja won the gross division one on a
count back on the 9 holes by getting 9.42 while Ian Tait got 9.44. At
the end of their round both had equal scores of 84 gross in mens
division one.
The Mens Division too title was won by veterans Tony Witham with a
gross 89 and in second place was Sireth Kasthuriratne with gross 96.
Tony Witham went on to complete a double in the Division two by wrapping
up the Nett title also by getting 75 and Sirath Kasthuriratne once again
finished second best with a nett 79.
The Ladies gross division was won by that versatile golfer Suwen
Selvaratnam with a gross 89 and this was her fourth medal win which was
a reward for her dedication, coming all the way from Colombo for this
medal round. In second place was that fast improving Thushari Rajapakse
who got a gross 95 with Sonia Boyle in third place with gross 98 and
school girl Maleena Awn who turned 14 on December 17th was placed fourth
with gross 106.
Thushari Rajapakse with a higher handicap pocketed the Ladies Nett
Division with 73 nett and Maleena Awn did well to finish runner up with
78 nett. Suwen Selvaratnam was placed third with 80 nett. |
