President visits Jayasiri Maha Bodhi
President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday paid homage to the Jayasiri
Maha Bodhi at Anuradhapura and was blessed by the chief prelate, the
Atamasthanadhipaithi Ven. Pallipana Siriniwasa Thero.
The President made this visit after paying his last respects to the
senior SLFPer, former Minister D. P. Wickremesinghe whose remains were
liying at his residence at Mawathagama.
President Rajapaksa was briefed by Ven. Siriniwasa Thero that
blessings from religious dignitaries were essential when leaders handled
vital matters of governance.
The President, prior to declare opening the Moragahakanda project
sought blessings from the Mahanayakas of the Malwatte and Asgiriya
chapters.
He also briefed the Mahanayaka of the move by the UNPers to join his
government and the plan to reshuffle his Cabinet.
