Independence celebrations via satellite

Sri Lakvahini; Sri Lanka's satellite television to the world will telecast the 59th Independence Day celebrations to over 140 countries with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation.

Sri Lakvahini Chairman Rohan Welivita told the Sunday Observer that this would be the first occasion where Sri Lankans all over the world can watch Colombo's Independence day celebrations live.

He said that they had been invited to cover the Sri Lankan Independence day celebrations in Chennai. Sri Lakvahini's children's program (Ran Onchilla) team members have also been invited to perform at the function.

The Chairman said that they received this opportunity after their successful coverage of the Sri Lankan refugee students sitting the GCE O/L examination in Chennai recently.
