Three Major Generals promoted
Army Commander Lt. General Sarath Fonseka yesterday promoted three
Major Generals, U. B. L. Fernando as new Chief of Staff at Army
Headquarters, D. V. S. Y. Kulatunga as Commander, Headquarters of Army
Volunteer Force and N. Wijesinghe as Deputy Chief of Staff, Army
Headquarters.
The new Chief of Staff, Maj. Gen. Fernando RWP RSP ndu psc joined the
Army in 1973 and held numerous appointments including Commanding Officer
1st Battalion, the Gajaba Regiment, Staff Officer Grade 1 Operations at
AHY COL GS in Special Forces (TF-4), Brigade Commander 523 Bde Riviresa
Operation, Director Training at Army Headquarters, Deputy GOC 56
Division Brigadier GS SFHQ (W), Division Commander 56 Div and 51 Div.
DGGS JOH - Handling all tsunami matters, Deputy Commandant and
Commandant Army Staff College, Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer
Force, Director General Infantry Colonel of the Gajaba Regiment.
Recently, Maj Gen. Fernando, was awarded President and Regimental
Colours.
He was overall Operations Commander Colombo and Western Province.
Major Gen. Fernando has taken part in major operations and awarded
gallantry medals nine times for bravery in Battle.
Followed Diploma courses in Senior Defence Management, Indore
University, India, Strategic Defence Management, China, Human Resource
Management, NIBM (Sri Lanka), Diploma in International Affairs and
Diplomacy (BMICH), Conflict Resolution Diploma (BAS).
