Quaint Talks
by Anura Maitipe
The dissident SLFP Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera did not have a
political image which was attractive to the masses of this country and
his cross over to the Opposition will not create big impact on the body
politics of the country, a UNP front liner S. B. Dissanayake said.
Mangala was a mere pet of former President Chindrika Bandaranaike
Kumaratunga and he was an inflated political creature created by Mrs.
Bandaranaike. The sole aim of forming the democratic wing of the SLFP is
to grab the power of the SLFP with the help of Mrs. Kumaratunga.
When Mangala was a minister he did not respect democracy and media
freedom of the country and now he should be ashamed of talking of
democracy and media freedom.
Former Minister S. B. Dissanayake at the UNP and Mangala Samaraweera
faction's first rally held last week in Colombo
The arrival of Mangala Samaraweera and Sripathy Suriarachchi was a
great political boost to the opposition. He was the most capable
Minister who had done much to bring the SLFP to power. The newly formed
alliance between the UNP and Mangala faction will certainly bring down
the Rajapaksa government.
Another dialogue between Wimal Weerawansa and W. J. M. Lokubandara.
JVP MP Wimal Weerawansa referred to an astrological puzzle in
conversation with Speaker W. J. M. Lokubandara and said: Some
astrologers have made a prediction that the UNP will come to power only
in 2013.
Speaker: Yes perhaps it may be.
Wimal: Then what was the planetary change people talk about
now?
Speaker: Oh! it was a planetary change of Saturn. Along with
such a planetary change in the past some political changes have also
taken place in the country.
There was a planetary change of Saturn in 1947 and with that change
we obtained Independence. There was a change again in 1977 and then
there was a big change in the country with the introduction of the open
economy. Since then this was the next such change.
Wimal: Why can't these planets stay in one place without
straying from one place to another.
Speaker: It was the usual way of planets. They cannot be at
one place, they move from one place to another.
Wimal: How will the planetary change of Saturn affect the
government this time?
Speaker: It has no effect at all on the government. Everything
will happen under the executive President of the country.
Wimal: Are there possibilities of a change of President along
with this planetary change?
These planetary changes could do nothing to the President until he
completes his full term given by voters.
Wimal: How does it affect you?
It will be the same.
