'Sustainabilitea' Convention from Aug. 29 - Sept. 1
The International Tea Convention themed "Sustainabilitea" will be
held from August 29 to September 1 at the Cinnamon Grand. It will be
hosted by the Colombo Tea Traders' Association together with the Sri
Lanka Tea Board.

The welcome reception will be held on August 29 at 7 p.m. at the
Cinnamon Grand while the convention will be inaugurated on August 30 at
8.30 a.m. The first session is themed "Sustainabilitea" Through Good
Agricultural Practices.
The opening address will be delivered by Chairman, Tea Research Board
Dr. Gerry Jayawardana. Executive Deputy Chairman, Kahawatte Plantations
Ltd. Planters' Association of Sri Lanka Dan Seevaratnam will speak on
Scientific Land Use Planning, Employment Challenges and Managing Costs.
Head of Operations, Tea Small Holder Factories Ltd/Asst. Vice
President, John Keells Holdings Ltd. Dr Sarath Samaraweera will speak on
Smallholder - Factory Partnership -Sri Lankan Experience. The Kenyan
Model will be handled by a speaker from KTDA.
Director, Engineering Haycarb Ltd. President, Bio Energy Association
of Sri Lanka Parakrama, Jayasinghe will speak on Sustainable Indigenous
Energy while Senior Resident Manager, Supply Chain Compliance
Controller, Unilever Supply Chain Company, Europe Ian Neathercoat will
speak on Sustainable Agricultural Practices.
The second session themed "Sustainabilitea" Through Emerging Global
Standards will be chaired by Chief Operations Officer, C. S. Asia Teas
(Pvt.) Ltd. Niraj de Mel while the Corporate View will be delivered by
Head of Technical Innovation, The TETLEY Group Ltd. Dr. Andrew Scott.
Senior Research Officer, Biochemistry Division, Tea Research Institute
of Sri Lanka, Tissa Amarakoon will speak on Maximum Residue Levels.
Director CIC Tea Advisory Services (Pvt.) Ltd. Dr. Ziyad Mohamed will
speak on Market Imposed Quality Management Systems (GMP/CQC/HACCP/5S/(TASL/SGS)
ISO/EURO GAP)Head of Product Safety APAC, Syngenta, Switzerland Michael
Earl will speak on the Use of Agro Chemicals in Sustainable Agriculture.
The panel discussion will be led by Quality Certification Manager Dr.
Dhayan Kiritisinghe, and Dr. Mrs. Anudini Liyanage.
The first session on August 31 themed "Sustainabilitea" Through
Strategic Corporate Social Responsibility is chaired by Executive Vice
President, Sector Head- Plantations, John Keells Holdings Ltd. Lalith
Ramanayake while there will be sessions on Ethical Tea Partnership and "Sustainabilitea".
Joseph Wagurah, Regional Manager-East Africa will speak on Ethical
Tea Partnership. Director Corporate branding and strategic CSR-MAS
Holdings Ravi Fernando, UN Global Compact Focal Point will speak on
Comparative Industries' View.
Ranjith Ellagala, Director General, Plantation Human Development
Trust will share his thoughts on the Sri Lankan Experience while a panel
discussion will follow.
The session themed "Sustainabilitea" Across The Value Chain will be
chaired by Director, Akbar Brothers Ltd. Chairman, Colombo Tea Traders
Association - Tyeab Akbarally, Senior Vice President, Asia Siyaka
Commodities (Pvt.) Ltd. Colombo Brokers Association. Anil Cooke will
speak on Traceability Across the Value Chain (Bush to Consumer) while
Vice President, Halssen and Lyon GmbH Kalle Grieger will speak on Multi
Origin Sourcing and Traceability.
Dickie Juriansz, Chairman, Imperial Tea Exports (Pvt.) Ltd. Chairman,
Tea Auction Automation Sub Committee will speak on Auction Automation as
a Value Tool.
Brokers from India and Kenya will attend the panel discussion.
