Lanka - Nepal diplomatic relations 50 years

A commemorative ceremony to mark the occasion of the 50th anniversary
of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Nepal (1957 to 2007) was
held yesterday at the Foreign Ministry.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Rohitha Bogollagama, Visiting Foreign
Minister Ms. Sahana Pratham and Minister of Posts and
Telecommunications, Rauff Hakeem were present. The Philatelic Bureau of
the Department of Posts issued a new postage stamp in the denomination
of Rs.15 to mark the occasion.
The stamp depicts Mount Everest, the highest mountain peak in the
world together with the - Sri Pada (Adams Peak) which is considered to
be one of the venerated peaks in the world. Minister Bogollagama said
that the two countries have enjoyed a close and cordial relationship for
over two millennia, confirming the bond of religious and cultural
affinities.
He said these early ties were further strengthened by the two parties
and have progressively developed and diversified, incorporating elements
of common interest based on mutual respect and understanding.
