Thai Assn. to support Lanka's gem trade
by A. G. Piyadasa
Following the Memorandum of Understanding signed by Hasitha
Tillekeratne, Chairman, National Gem and Jewellery Authority (NGJA) with
the president of the Thai Gem and Jewellery Manufacturers, Association (TGJMA)
last year, the TGJMA has agreed to provide assistance to upgrade
technology, designs, product development, skills development of members
of the Sri Lanka Gem, Diamond and Jewellery Trade.
As Thailand is in the forefront in the world gem and jewellery trade
this would be a good opportunity for Sri Lankan members of the trade to
benefit from their expertise.
"TGJMA" said that they are ready to commence the training programme
and for us to nominate the selected trainers to undergo the programme.
Initially it is expected to send trainers on jewellery manufacturing
nominated by Gem and Jewellery Research Training Institute (GJRTI) on
jewellery designing and jewellery manufacturing and the Sri Lanka Gem
and Jewellery Association (SLGJA).
TGJMA has invited the NGJA chairman who was instrumental in
negotiating the training packages to be their guest during the
forthcoming Bangkok Gem and Jewellery Fair which will be held from
September 18-22.
The discussions will strengthen the relationship between the two
organisations. These discussions would encompass more detailed
deliberations in further enhancing training programmes between the two
countries.
