Nokia's latest cellular Mobile phones launched

The latest Cellular Mobile Phones with features to browse the Internet along with other facilities will be available in Sri Lanka shortly as in other developed cities in the world. The two latest Nokia cellular mobile phones were launched at a ceremony in Colombo recently.

The cellular phones 1200 and 1208 were launched at a ceremony at the Trans asia Hotel, recently. The cellular phones with phone sharing and call tracking technology were displayed by exquisite models.

Nokia's General Manager for Emerging Asia, Prem Chand said Sri Lanka was an important market for Nokia as it was a developed market in the region with the 3G service already available here. The Nokia cellular phone was the fifth largest product in the world, he said.

Nokia's National Sales Manager for Sri Lanka, Nepal and the Maldives, Kent Sitaca said more than 900 million people around the globe use Nokia devices.

He said Nokia's success in penetrating the global market was due to its easy usage. The mobile penetration in Sri Lanka was around 26 percent when compared to fixed line phones at 7.5 percent.

There are opportunities for expansion of the mobile market in rural areas, he said. Meanwhile the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Sri Lanka has predicted a 49 percent mobile penetration by 2010.
