Liver transplant

Eight-month-old baby boy, Jayamanna Arachchige Induwara Rasanjana is suffering from a chronic liver ailment. On a recommendation by the Paediatric Surgeon of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children, Colombo, the child underwent Kasai surgery on 30.4.07 in Sri Lanka.

Further treatment at the Madras Medical Mission, Chennai (India), it has been found by the Consultant Paediatrician, Dr. Shanthi Raj, that the patient had to undergo immediate liver transplant.

In consultation with the Consultant Hepatologist and Medical Gastroenterologist, Dr. N. Murugan, the mother of the child, W. A. Podimenike who has been evaluated with her blood group, is willing to donate a section of the liver, for the transplant.

The entire cost of the surgery is around Rs. 15 lakhs (Rs. 10 lakh - Indian rupees), followed with life long immunosuppression which will cost Rs. 10 to 15 thousand per month.

Kind hearted people who are willing to help this child, may contribute to A/c No. 0440-02558860-101 of the Seylan Bank, Kuliyapitiya or to A/c No. 1-048608-3 of the Bank of Ceylon, Kuliyapitiya.


Growth hormone deficiency

Eight-year-old Farhan Mohamed suffers from Isolated Growth Hormone Deficiency, diagnosed by Dr. Shamya De Silva, Consultant Paediatrician, Lady Ridgeway Hospital, Colombo 08.

The treatment for this condition is daily adminstration of Growth Hormone and the drugs for a single month cost Rs. 14,000, which had to be continued for several years.

His father M. B. M. Farook, a minor employee in a company, with three other small children, cannot afford the drugs and hence appeal to the generous public, to contribute to the cause. Monies could be remitted to A/C No. 176200103285761 of People's Bank, Mid City Branch, Colombo 11.
