Wilson performs in Sri Lanka at a fundraiser for Sri Lanka's Landmine
Victims as spokesperson for the Humpty Dumpty Institute, New York.
NEW YORK, October 9, 2007,
Sri Lanka will play host to Mary Wilson, one of the original
members' of the legendary Supremes as she performs at a fundraiser in
Colombo at 'The Black & White Evening on 3rd November at the Cinnamon
Grand.
Mary Wilson of The Supremes that inspired the Oscar winning film 'Dreamgirls'
will be in Sri Lanka on the
invitation of the Humpty Dumpty Institute (HDI) New York and the One Sri
Lanka Foundation San Francisco.
The concert, highlighting some of the Supreme's biggest Grammy
winning hits including Stop! In The Name of Love, I'm Every Woman and
Ain't No Mountain High Enough will be complemented by an elegantly
themed black and white ambience, gourmet cuisine and great wines
courtesy the host hotel, the Cinnamon Grand. Mary Wilson who is
accompanied by a seven member band will perform this fundraiser for Sri
Lanka's landmine victims, primarily children who become the unfortunate
victims of these weapons of war.
Mary Wilson, an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988
along with her fellow Supremes Diana Ross and Florence Ballard was also
appointed by US Secretary of State Colin Powell in 2003 as Cultural
Ambassador and has travelled on missions to Botswana, Bangladesh,
Pakistan, Bosnia, Mozambique, Oman, Uruguay and Argentina.
She was recently awarded a Doctorate of Humane Letters from Paine
College in Augusta, GA and has authored "Supreme Faith: Someday We'll Be
Together" and the best-seller "Dreamgirl" My Life As A Supreme."
This is the first mission undertaken by Mary Wilson as the
spokesperson for HDI New York and whose visit will also include
travelling to Jaffna to review mine clearance by the HALO Trust and
Dairy Development by Land O'Lakes Dairy Development Lanka both funded by
HDI. The media sponsors are the Sunday Times, Daily Mirror, Hi, Channel
1 MTV and Yes FM.
