From
a losing end of matters it has now been transformed into a highly
profitable institution. The Ceylon Fishery Harbour Corporation is
evolving to a successful level today under the flagship of its present
minister Hon. Felix Perera and its youthful Chairman Asanga
Abeygoonasekara, who has amongst other concepts that he visualised at
making the fast losing institution into a profit making venture
harboured into the tourism territory to make it a integral part of his
eco adventure travel concept.
Boat Rides and Night Fishing excursions are made available to
families and groups # at the two Fishery Harbours in Panadura and
Hikkaduwa. Dolphin and Whale Watching is also arranged through the
Hikkaduwa Fishery Harbour. Diving programmes too are conducted at this
Harbour and one can also visit the Great and the Little Basses and also
one of the oldest Light Houses which is in Kirinda.
CFHC's Travel Wing can make arrangements for you to witness the
spectacular natural behaviour of Whales and Dolphins by taking you there
at the right time of the year.
Night Sailing under a full moon is also a exhilarating experience
according to travellers who have experienced it first hand. and the
visit to the Kirinda Harbour which operated as a commercial harbour
before the 18th century and became even a more popular tourist spot
after the British built the Great and the Little Basses in 1873 some
20Km off the harbour.
Underwater exploring is also on the cards to people who wants take
the opportunity of experiencing such events. Hikkaduwa is the place for
underwater excursions where there is a marine sanctuary abundant with
rare corals and tropical fish.
There
is a wide coral shelf surrounding the local coastline all the way from
the north all the way down to the southern coastal belt and it is all a
beautifully natural underwater world at your disposal and the CFHC
travel wing is all geared to help adventure lovers to explore it.
In a interview with the media the Chairman further stressed that the
project is already in operation and many local and foreign tourists are
making use of the packages that are on offer.
He also said that they are contemplating in taking these programmes
to the north and the east where he said the situation is changing for
the better. He also said that in the process of drawing out the plan to
bring into operation these eco adventure tours the Secretary to the
Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, E. Jinadasa was of immense
