Two undergrads of Peradeniya P' University in custody

The Central Range Special Investigation Unit (SIU) investigating the assault on Inspectors of the Peradeniya police, took two undergraduates of the Arts and Science Faculties of Peradeniya University into custody on Wednesday.

Chief Inspector S. D. M. Farook, OIC SIU with the assistance of Inspector R. Sampath and Sub-Inspectors Chinthaka Bandara and Thillekeratne made the arrests at Peradeniya.

According to police several undergraduates of the University of Peradeniya are alleged to have assaulted and caused injuries to Chief Inspector Herath and Sub-Inspector Bandara at the Peradeniya rest house following an altercation between the undergraduates and Inspectors on September 4.

Inspectors A. H. M. Rafaithu and T. B. Wijekoon produced the suspects with a report before the Kandy Magistrate Harsha Setunge and moved that suspects be remanded and produced at an identification parade.

The Magistrate remanded the suspects till November 7 and directed the remand authorities to produce them at an identification parade on that date.
