Forces repulse attack, several Tigers killed

Troops deployed in Vavuniya yesterday confronted Tiger terrorists in several places during daytime and killed at least eleven Tiger terrorists while inflicting injuries on other cadres.

In one incident troops received heavy fire from Tiger terrorists who were hiding in a bunker near Army security lines in Parappakandal at about 6.30 a.m.

Troops immediately launched a counter attack and killed at least four terrorists while smashing two of their bunkers successfully.

In another incident at Mullikulam troops confronted a pocket of terrorists who were moving in the area and killed three of them while the rest fled into the jungles at about 3.30 p.m.

In Palamoddai troops repulsed another Tiger attempt were repulsed killing three Tiger terrorists at about 6.00 p.m.

One LTTE bunker had been completely destroyed according to ground information.

Meanwhile, one soldier who received injuries in an anti-personnel mine explosion in Kuduruvittankulam succumbed to his injuries on admission to the hospital at about 12.10 p.m.
