Lion flag to fly high

The highlight of this year's 60th Independence Day celebrations will be the unveiling of Sri Lanka's national flag at a height of 30-metres.

The 'Tharunyata Hetak' youth organisation spearheaded by Namal Rajapaksa aims to unite all Sri Lankans together with this initiative. Members of the Armed Forces will provide a Guard of Honour when hoisting this flag that will serve as an emblem of unity.

A Chinese company will fund the construction of this 30-metre high pole which will be set up at the Galle Face Green.

The Sri Lankan flag with its magnificent Lion portrait will adorn the Galle Face Green and is one of the many national projects of the youth organisation, 'Tharunyata Hetak'.

The youth organisation is dedicated to unite all Sri Lankans irrespective of caste, religion or race.

The objective is to facilitate mutual understanding of the spirit of national identity, development, goodwill and peace-building.
