A week ago, the Water's Edge Ballroom packed with dance lovers
witnessed a magical Dance Festival unfold in all it's splendour,
presented by the Ballroom Dancers Federation International Sri Lanka.
The curtain raiser which encompassed multi-style dancing of Wheel
Chair, Hip Hop, Line, Rock'n Roll and Belly was breathtaking.
The children ranging from 4 years onwards thrilled the audience with
Line and Hip Hop Competition segments and a lively demonstration of Rock
'n Roll.
Dancing on Wheels was the highlight of the evening. Soldiers from
Rana Viru Sevana, Children of the Sevana Lama Nivasa and other disabled
dancers proved that they too could excel in Standard and Latin Dancing.
They took part in the 'Combi' Wheel Chair Competition.
Asian Wheel Chair Champions Frances Teo and Chung Hong Tsin did
justice to their title, by performing three exotic dances, the Jive, Cha
and Rumba on wheelchair.
The adult's Hip Hop and Line Competitions were very competitive,
followed by a fusion demonstration of Thai Show Case Dance by the Thai
Latin Champions - Alonggod Nutsati and Wanchaya Kumsook.
After a breather when the audience got to their feet moving to the
music of 'Friends in Harmony', the grand finale, the act by the Showcase
and Blackpool Champions, Alla Profatilova and Mentor Sejdiu held the
crowd spellbound.
The BDFI should be given a big bouquet for presenting such a
professional multi style Dance Festival, together with the Wheel Chair
Dancesport Association. This event was co-sponsored by Dialog, Rollo,
Mihin Lanka, Real Radio, Singapore Airlines, Cream Soda, Sogo, Ferro
Lanka, Derana, and ABC Group.
Excellent host facilities were provided by the Official Hotel -
Hilton Colombo. Poppy Dhanoingani was awarded the child star 2008 title,
while the runner-up was Anna Zerikovoa.
