Work on Mattakkuliya-Hendala Road soon

Construction work on the Mattakkuliya-Hendala access Road will commence late this month, an official of the Ministry of Highways and Road Development said, "We hope to complete this project by December. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 150 million with financial assistance from the Government."

He said this road is built to minimise traffic congestion in Colombo. This road will run through Wattala, Elakanda, across the Kelani river to Mattakkuliya, Modera Street, Kochchikade and to Fort.

Rs. 14 million compensation was paid to nineteen house owners who were evacuated to build the road last week at a ceremony held with the participation of Deputy Minister W. B. Ekanayake. (IC)
