Army chief commends Govt.

Army Commander Lt.Gen.Sarath Fonseka has commended the Government's clear political vision and direction in spearheading the military operations against LTTE terrorists.

Lt.Gen. Fonseka told the Sunday Obsever that the Government was supporting the Security Forces by providng all assistance to curb LTTE terrorism. "We are going ahead remarkably in the war against the LTTE due to the effective support given to us by the Government," the Commander said.

Commenting on the present state of the LTTE, he said that the outfit was in dissaray with severe losses in the areas where the confrontations were currently taking place.

"LTTE leader V.Prabhakaran should realise that he cannot go ahead with his military campaign. They have no option other than to give up their struggle and enter the political mainstream. We will not allow the country to be separated and will strengthen unity and assure the safety of all communities in the country. Tamils are free to live anywhere in the country and they live safely in various parts of the island, " the Commander said.

He said that the LTTE was now confined only to two districts in the north and the outfit was running out of men and materials to stand before the advancing Army.
