CRICKET: Middle order batsman Thilan Samaraweera hit a superb
120 with one six and fifteen boundaries as SSC piled up a massive 444
runs in their first innings on the third day of their SLC Premier Trophy
inter club four day Tier A league tournament match against their
traditional rivals NCC continued at Maitland Place yesterday.
The 31 year old former Sri Lanka cap displayed a tremendous amount of
concentration and determination while facing 179 deliveries in
completing his second century in the competition. The right hander has a
top score of 125 and four other half centuries which has made as the
second highest run getter so far with an excellent average of 96.75.
This was after SSC had made a good start to their run chase with
opener Tharanga Paranavithana and Kaushal Silva scoring half centuries.
The SSC later order batsmen too made useful contributions with all
rounder Dhammika Prasad scoring exactly fifty runs.
NCC trailing by a huge 171 runs then reached 95 for 2 in their second
innings with opener Kanchana Gunawardena completing an unbeaten half
century.
