Gamini Jayasuriya steps down

BADMINTON: Gamini Jayasuriya who headed the Mercantile Badminton Association (MBA) for 10 consecutive years decided to step down to infuse new blood declining numerous requests from members of the Executive Committee, to carry on.

He has been in the Ex-Co of the MBA for 16 years and under his stewardship as President, the MBA achieved tremendous success to be the strongest affiliate of the Sri Lanka Badminton Association (SLBA).

Several innovative features were added to various tournaments of the MBA to uplift the standards of the sport and also contributed much to the strong financial stability.

Jayasuriya was also a Vice-President of the SLBA for five years and even headed its Finance Committee, and being a strict disciplinarian, leaves the MBA scene with a great deal of satisfaction, but disappointed that he was unable to house the MBA at its own premises.
