Architect 2008 exhibition a success
The Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) marked its 25th annual
session by holding the Architect 2008 Exhibition, a mega exposition of
Architects' Work and Trade from February 20-24 at the BMICH and the
Sirimavo Bandaranaike Convention Centre.
Four-hundred-and eleven stalls-taken up by 260 organisations - were
on display, showcasing the latest range of local and imported building
material such as water proofing, steel, materials for doors and windows,
roofing and flooring materials, electrical items plumbing and drainage
related items, solar power equipment and interior decoration items.
The entrance lobby was dedicated to 98 members and practices of the
SLIA who displayed their work. Among the trade sector participants were
11 foreign companies engaged in the trade of building materials and the
manufacturing industry.
The exhibition grounds also had information on products and services
required for the entire building process.
Photographs and drawings of the top three houses designed by
Architects, selected by the SLIA, were displayed at the exhibition.
Visitors also had the opportunity to receive discounts for orders that
they placed from stallholders at the exhibition.
The SLIA had a stall dedicated to providing information on the
institute, its publications as well as a Career Guidance Centre to
provide information on Architectural education at the University of
Moratuwa and the Colombo School of Architecture.
