First Free Fall Lifeboat in SA

CINEC Maritime Campus installed and launched its Free Fall Lifeboat for training at their Survival training facility in Kalutara to provide enhanced safety training and keep Sri Lankan seafarers ahead of their counterparts in South Asia.

The safest and quickest mode of escape from a stricken ship are now by way of Free Fall Lifeboat. The CINEC Survival Centre is the only facility in Sri Lanka to train seafarers in handling a variety of the ship's survival craft including Lifeboats with on load release mechanism. The centre is also equipped with Fast Rescue Craft and fully enclosed mechanised Lifeboats.

The Free Fall Lifeboat which was launched is of the latest design and custom built for training for CINEC. The bow of the boat is of tougher construction to absorb stress due to continuous drops it will experience during training.

The boat which accommodates 20 passengers is the first of its design out and installed by Fassmer, an internationally reputed Lifeboat manufacturer in Germany. It is surveyed and classed according to Germanisher Lloyds.
