Awards for best performers at Peradeniya University

University of Peradeniya has awarded eight science graduates who excelled in their field of study at the special degree examination held last year.

Ms. H. M. Chamini Kumari Kanatiwela was awarded the Prof. M. D. Dassanayake Gold Medal in Botany for the Best Performance in Botany and the University Award for Academic Excellence at the Special Degree Examination in Science 2006/2007 of the University of Peradeniya.

Ms. Kanatiwela who obtained First Class Honours at this examination is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. H. M. R. Kanatiwela of No. 14/B, Alawathugoda Rd., Pujapitiya and an old girl of Mahamaya Girls' College, Kandy.

Ms. Chalani Nadeeka Welgama was awarded the Bhikaji Framji Khan Gold Medal for the best performance in Chemistry and the University Award for Academic Excellence at the Special Degree Examination in Science 2006/2007 of the University of Peradeniya.

Ms. Welgama who obtained First Class Honours at this examination is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. P. S. Welgama of No. 29, 3rd Mile Post, Ampitiya, Kandy and an old girl of Mahamaya Girls' College, Kandy.

Mr. Piranavan Kumaravadivel was awarded the Dr. C. A. Hewawitharana Memorial Prize for Physics for the best performance in Physics and the University Award for Academic Excellence at the special Degree Examination in Science 2006/2007 of the University of Peradeniya.

Mr. Kumaravadivel who obtained First Class Honours at this examination is the son of Prof. Rajaratnam Kumaravadivel & Mrs. Rajini Kumaravadivel of No. 350/1, Pointpedro Rd,. Jaffna and an old boy of Jaffna Hindu College, Jaffna.

Mr. K. A. Chanara Indunil Bandara Seneviratne was awarded the Sultanbawa Prize for the best performance in Organic Chemistry and the University Award for Academic Excellence at the Special Degree Examination in Science 2006/2007 of the University of Peradeniya.

Mr. Seneviratne who obtained First Class Honours at this examination is the son of Mr. & Mrs. K. I. Seneviratne of No. 69/8C, Gohagoda Rd,. Katugastota, Kandy and an old boy of Kingswood College, Kandy.

Ms. Sumangali Kailainathan was awarded the Felix Prashantha Amerasinghe Gold Medal for Excellence in Zoology and the University Award for Academic Excellence at the Special Degree Examination in Science 2006/2007 of the University of Peradeniya.

Ms. Kailainathan who obtained First Class Honours at this examination is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. P. Kailainathan of Annamalai Rd,. Suthumalai South, Manipay, Jaffna and an old girl of Vembadi Girls' High School, Jaffna.

Ms. A. D. Umali Madushika Perera was awarded the Coomaraswamy Prize for Science for the best performance in Biological Sciences at the General Degree Examination in Science 2006/2007 of the University of Peradeniya.

Ms. Perera who obtained Second Class Honours (Upper Division) at this examination is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. A. D. S. S. Perera of No. 233, Bambarakelle, Nuwara-Eliya and an old girl of Good Shepherd Convent, Nuwara-Eliya. Mr. Gamage Harsha Prasad Perera was awarded the Coomaraswamy Prize for Science for the best performance in Physical Sciences at the General Degree Examination in Science 2006/2007 of the University of Peradeniya.

Mr. Perera who obtained Second Honours (Upper Division) at this examination is the son Mr. & Mrs. G. G. Perera of No. 135/1, Depanama, Pannipitiya and an old boy of D. S. Senanayake College, Colombo 7.

Ms. M. T. M. N. N. Tennakoon was awarded the Coomaraswamy Prize for Science for the best performance in Physical Sciences at the General Degree Examination in Science 2006/2007 of the University of Peradeniya. Ms. Tennakoon who obtained Second Class Honours (Upper Division) at this examination is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. P. Tennakoon of Peetee Shoe Co. (Pvt.) Ltd., Kawdella, Galagedara, Kandy and an old girl of Mahamaya Girls' College, Kandy.
