LMD to release ‘Most Respected’ rankings

LMD announced recently that its ‘Most Respected’ rankings for 2008 will for the second year be published in a standalone edition.

The publisher said that it will rank the top 100 entities - an expansion from the 30 listed in 2007.

A spokesperson for Media Services, which also publishes the lifestyle journal living and presents the high-profile business program Benchmark and Sri Lanka’s version of the Fortune 500 (The LMD 50 annual edition), said, “Last year, the highly regarded blue chip JKH was easily the most respected entity in this country - other leading corporates such as Ceylinco, Hayleys, Commercial Bank, HSBC, HNB, apparel manufacturers MAS and Brandix and conglomerates such as Aitken Spence did well in the rankings.”

The unique rankings are compiled by LMD, in collaboration with leading research firm The Nielsen Company.

The pollsters ask respondents to rank business houses operating in this country according to a number of criteria, including financial performance, quality consciousness, innovation, dynamism, vision, management profile, honesty, CSR focus, work environment and nation-mindedness. In 2007, JKH headed six of these rankings, with Dialog Telekom helming the rest of the sub-categories.

The special standalone issue, said its publisher, will carry commentaries by business leaders and leading academics. “Hopefully, these interviews will shed some light on why certain companies are admired and provide insights into how these corporates have become success stories,” the spokesperson said.

The Media Services said it is inviting the ‘Most Respected’ entities to have their corporate profiles published in the forthcoming special edition - it said it is expecting 40-50 such profiles to be part of what will be a publication with a one-year shelf life.
