Samarasinghe brothers captained S. Thomas’ at rugby

RUGBY: The Rajapaksa brothers —- Rohitha Rajapaksa (2008), Yoshitha Rajapaksa (2006) and Namal Rajapaksa (2005) were not the first of brothers who captained S. Thomas’ College at rugby football in inter-school matches.

Before the Rajapaksa brothers came on the rugby scene at S. Thomas’ there were the Samarasinghe brothers who excelled in many sports at S. Thomas’ and represented the college at rugby football and not only that, but captained the team as well.

There was that fine sportsman Nihal ‘Baila’ Samarasinghe who died recently, captained the rugby football team in 1961, then his younger brother Mohan captained S. Thomas’ rugby in 1963 and later Rajpal captained the team in 1972.
