Isurumaga 2008 exhibition from June 20 - 22

Isurumaga 2008, the special Agricultural, Machinery and Modern Technology Exhibition will be held from June 20-22 from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. at the Mahaweli grounds Embilipitiya.

Organised by the Sabaragamuwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the fifth successive year it will encourage new links between businessman and traders engaged in Agriculture in Embilipitiya and leading organisations in Colombo.

This effort will help the businessman, traders and the organisations to promote their products and services and forge new ties said President S.C.C.I. Dharshaka Rupasinghe.

He said that there will be 86 stalls dealing in agricultural machinery and new technology as well as fresh produce from the area. Well-known companies in the agriculture sector such as CIC, Baurs and Jinasena will occupy about 26 stalls while 30 stalls will be given free to deserving entrepreneurs. As in the past the schools too have been invited to participate in the exhibition.

Immediate Past President SCCI C. J. Gunaseela said the reason for shifting the venue from Ratnapura to Embilipitiya was to introduce new technology and skills to the fast developing Embilipitiya as they did not have access to these which are necessary for the development of the agriculture sector.

He said special attention has been given to subjects such as Agriculture, Information, technology, trade development, food processing and marketing of agricultural products.

A series of workshops will be held concurrent to the exhibition to educate the farmers as well as the traders and businessman engaged in agriculture.

The Isurumaga exhibition is one of our key projects and it has helped to bridge the gap between the private and public sector.

This relationship has helped us to find solutions for our problems from the public sector.

Secretary General/CEO Business for Peace Alliance (BPA) Manique Mendis said that the BPA is a network of 24 regional chambers and represents 15,000 members around the country.

Established in 1997, the SCCI supports the business community to start new ventures, develop the established ventures and develop markets for the goods made and produced in the area.

The services extended by SCCI include business development services, technical and management, the Sabaragamuwa business school, e-commerce centre as well as starting new projects to develop the economy in the province to create a stable economic and social development for the people of Sabaragamuwa.
