Scribes in the making
N o matter how busy we are at the end of the week and no matter how
clueless we are when it comes to writing the ‘Memory Lane’, we always
come up with some bright idea of a topic to save the day.
In the past few weeks we were sort of preoccupied with the subject of
food. We finally diagnosed it as an indication of being too busy to have
our meals at the right time. Since we end up making the most hilarious
blunders out of sheer hunger, by giving us inspiration to turn it into
another episode for Memory Lane.
We are usually so busy that we hardly have time to get our
journalists’ credentials in order. Because we never had the time to pose
for the photograph at the correct time whenever they call us. The first
time we were so busy with an event we were working so hard for.
We were so tired at the end of a hard day’s work of organizing, that
we unanimously opted to skip the ‘photo session’. I have always had this
bad habit - even at school and anywhere else I happen to be - I never
check out the notice board. And it turned out that Anuki too had the
same problem. And we ended up missing it the second time they called for
ID renewal.
Consequently we were never able to get our company ID matter
expedited. And we end up having to renew this pink coloured slip, month
after month. This proved to be a headache, especially since we have to
climb up and down hundred odd of flights of steps of few staircases
every month.
It has turned into a syndrome of its own, making every newcomer wince
at the mere mention of the phrase ‘the pink slip’, due to our own fault,
of course. But then again it’s because we are too busy being
journalists, that we haven’t had the time to get our journalists
credentials, isn’t that Ironic!
Samadhi and I face this huge problem of finding some spare time to go
for a movie or to spend some time with our family and friends. Well,
this is certainly not a complaint because we enjoy the profession we are
in.
Well, the difficulty is that, by the end of the week when the paper
comes out we start wondering how come we being so busy, we hardly see
our bylines. Was it ‘boru busy’ after all? Who else would know the
reason behind it better than us?
Well, there are plenty of times the articles got thrown into the
waste paper basket, and as long as the articles are up to the standard
of the second boss’ requirements.
The biggest problem we face is pleasing him. I remember that one of
my articles got rejected very recently and this was the conversation
Samadhi and I had.
Samadhi: “What went wrong with your article?”
Anuki: “Phew, it’s being shuttle-cocked to the magazine.”
Samadhi: “It’s hard to satisfy him isn’t it, but I think it’s worth
trying, right?
Anuki: “Well, trying is fine, if one is hard to satisfy; but the
problem is some can never be satisfied, so there is no point trying”.
We saw him looking at us, and Samadhi jumped and told him what I
said, I thought it was the end of me. Luckily the response was not so
bad, he asked us to keep on trying with a smirk on his face.
I guess it was a narrow escape, but only both of us know how hard it
is. Then again its fun as well to look forward to some journalistic
challenges, because our second boss always says learning through hard
methods would always give solid results. |
