Sirimal Pieris, Team Manager of Eagle Insurance PLC, Colombo left for
Canada to attend the (MDRT) Million Dollar Round Table Conference from
June 22-26 Ontario, Toronto.
He is participating as the present Chairperson of Eagle Field
Managers’ Association for the first time in its history.
Kids’ fun day at Standard Chartered Bank
Standard Chartered Bank’s head office was transformed into a kids’
zone, as 65 staff members children visited the Bank to get a first hand
experience of their parents’ work life.
Greeted at the door by the Bank’s Diversity and Inclusion (D & I)
Committee the youngsters streamed up to the Learning Centre, where food,
fun and activity awaited them.
Touring the floors of Standard Chartered Bank the children
experienced what it is actually like to work at a bank. They had the
opportunity to look at the bank vault, try on head phones at the call
centre and watch as credit cards were embossed and they finally trooped
into the Learning Centre where activities and learning programs had been
organised for them.
Workshop on Sustainability Reporting
ACCA Sri Lanka in conjunction with Smart Media and Det Norske Veritas
(DNV) will conduct a one day workshop on Sustainability Reporting on
July 10 at the Hilton Residencies.
The workshop is being conducted for selected participants and will
give an in-depth understanding of ways to tackle this seemingly daunting
task with practical advice and sharing of knowledge on the methodology
of compiling and presenting a good Sustainability Report.
The workshop is targeted at the senior most person who is finally
responsible for producing the company’s Sustainability Report.
The workshop will serve to raise the standard of Sustainability
Reporting considerably, thereby making the ACCA (Sri Lanka) awards in
this field more competitive.
ACCA runs the most prestigious jury-based Sustainability Reporting
Awards schemes in Europe, North America, Africa and Asia.
Trends on Customer behaviour
Rohit Talwar will explore critical trends and developments shaping
the future and highlight the opportunities they create for entrepreneurs
in his inaugural address at the Sri Lanka Economic Summit on July 1.
He will highlight what’s next on the horizon, examine the powerful
social and environmental trends that will drive customer behaviour and
explore tomorrow’s breakthrough technologies.
Rohit will describe how these trends will affect business and how
changes will need to be made in existing business models and strategies
to respond to the opportunities.
He will highlight where to look for new ideas and examine what
conventional businesses can learn from social entrepreneurs and the
growing number of successful social ventures.
Wickramashila College makes headway
Wickramashila College of Higher Education (Pvt) Ltd., at Yatawatta,
Matale holds regular classes to prepare and train students for Public
Examinations conducted by Sri Lankan, London, Cambridge and Indian
Universities.
The college provides elementary care for Sinhala medium students to
switch to the English medium.
A spokesman for the College said that the college develops knowledge
and skills to meet social challenges and educational opportunities of
children and adults needed for the twenty-first century society within
the framework of national values.
The founder of the college is Dr. Priyantha Wimalasiri. After his
graduation, he worked as a principal and a teacher in Sri Lanka.
Having passed the MA and PhD Degree examinations, he worked in the
fields of education, socio-culture and marketing in Sri Lanka, UK, West
Germany, India and the UAE.
A program is under way to award scholarships annually for the most
brilliant students who are economically backward in the country to
continue higher studies in the English medium irrespective of religious
and racial considerations. |
