Havelocks in smashing 48-7 win over Army

Havelocks with a power packed display retained the Yen Foo Paktsun
Shield when they beat Army by 48 points (5 goals, 2 tries, 1 penalty) to
7 (1 goal) in their Caltex ‘A’ Division league rugby match played at
Havelock Park yesterday.
Although a bit of early promise was shown by the soldiers with a few
sparodic moves, Havelocks dominated play with better understanding
throughout the match and went on to plant four tries in the first half
to the Army’s solitary try.
Winger Wasim Thajudeen opened scoring for the Havelock Park club with
an unconverted try while the other winger Nuwan Hettiarachchi, No. 8
Rajive Ganapathy and flanker Mohammed Izzadeen gave their side a
substantial half way mark lead of 26-7 by scoring one try each.
Samantha Lakshan fired over the conversions. Army’s try came through
prop forward Sarath Kumara which T.A. Silva added the extra points. Just
prior to lemons yellow cards were shown to Havelocks Dilan de Zoysa and
Army’s N.V. Perera and later marching orders were also given to army’s
U.A. Perera.
Havelocks scored three more tries through prop Danushka Sandaruwan,
flanker Indika Abeyratne and Samantha Lakshan. In addition Lakshan also
added the extra points to two tries and fired across a penalty.
