Emerald House Champs

Emerald House with 261 points emerged champions in the inter-house athletic meet of Vidura College held at the Thalawatugoda school premises recently.

Sapphire House with 219 points came second while Ruby House were third with 193 points and Topaz House fourth with 190 points.

A chess centre in Peraliya...

Chess: A new chess centre in Peraliya in the Matara District will be opened by Mr. Mikhail Ustinov - Director, the Russian Centre of Colombo. The centre will be opened in Paduma Gabbarama Temple in Peraliya on July 1 at 11.30 a.m.

The centre was the brainchild of Mrs. Suneetha ijesuriya - President of the Anatoly Karpov Chess Club of the Russian Centre. Anatoly Karpov Chess Club arranged a mega simultaneous chess programs and raised a fund of Rs. 300,000 to help the tsunami affected chess players southern province area by putting up a chess centre.

The Anatoly Karpov Chess Club had the good fortune of getting the assistance of India’s first International Master in arranging three Indian Grand Masters for the simultaneous chess program to help raise funds.

Cricket: The limited-over cricket match between Eser Marketing (Pvt) Limited and Union Bank played at Ratmalana Irrigation grounds on June 18th was abandoned due to rain.

Union Bank: 162 for 7 in 30 overs (Angana 44, Gihan 26; Ranjan Delumgahawatta 2 for 24, Dhanushka Dissanayake 2 for 13).

Eser Marketing: 37 for 2 wkts in 8 overs (Suranjan 2 for 12).
