Sandun Arana to promote sandalwood trees

All neglected sandalwood trees in the country will be tended and
cared for under the national project titled Sandun Arana sponsored by
Touchwood Investments Limited with the patronage of the Ministry of
Environment and Natural Resources.
The project would promote the growth of sandalwood trees in all
places of worship around the country with the support of the ministry.
An event organised by the Sandun Arana project was held at the
Shanthi Viharaya in Piliyandala. Minister of Sports Gamini Lokuge, the
chief guest said that Touchwood Investments which had taken steps in the
preservation and distribution of Sandalwood plants throughout the
country was an example to the nation.
Head of Sales and Marketing at Touchwood Investments, Kanil Hattotuwa
said that in an era where Sri Lanka destroys 5,700 acres of forest every
month a commitment to continue with the task of not only planting trees
but also preserving our rich culture and the use of sandalwood was the
sole focus of Touchwood Investments.
In addition to such a commitment - which would be carried out even on
Sundays the future generations will be enlightened on the need of
nurturing and preserving the sandalwood tree and forestry.
The most Ven. Wellawatte Pangnasara Thera, Viharadhipathi, Shanthi
Vihara said that an environment friendly campaign will be conducted in
association with religious places of worship. |
